The Gerald R. Ford Conservation Center
The Gerald R. Ford Conservation Center preserves cultural, historical, artistic, and educational collections through conservation and preservation activities. Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the Ford Center is a regional facility that provides preservation services for clients in the central region and throughout the world. These services include consultations, assessments of collection needs, surveys of treatment needs, educational and training opportunities, treatment of collection materials, and digital imaging services.
Ford Center conservators provide up-to-date technical information and assistance for those faced with making decisions about all aspects of collection care and management and provides lectures and workshops on a variety of topics for many audiences. Ford Center staff assist with the development of emergency preparedness plans, provide staff training, and offer on-site response, assistance with recovery, and collection treatment.
Conservation assessments of institutional and private institutions provide written discussion of an institution, or collection, and its overall state of preservation practice. Surveys to document the condition and treatment needs of individual objects in a collection are provided through a specific report detailing the condition, treatment priority, and conservation needs for each object and overall recommendations for long-term conservation planning.
Treatment services are available for a wide range of object types including works of art on paper, archival collections, photographs, metals, ceramics, glass, ethnographic objects, archeological materials, organic materials, paintings, textiles, and other composite objects. Treatment services vary from simple preventive stabilization to complete treatment and cosmetic reintegration and technical study and examination.
The Ford Center offers the finest digital imaging services in the country for public and private cultural institutions and private collectors. Clients receive the highest quality, state of the art imaging services available today with the safety and security that comes with supervision and oversight by a full staff of professionally trained conservators and curators.
